In Praise of Forests : The Artists

J Allison Robichaud is an accomplished plein air painter who has earned the respect of fellow artists and fine art collectors alike, across Canada. He has had 24 solo exhibitions and has participated in some of Canada’s most prestigious art symposiums. Allison Robichaud is an elected member of the Institute of Figurative Arts (IFA) and author of “The Reflective Stepping Stones of a Painter published in 2002. His landscapes and still life paintings are highly collected.

Charles Spratt is an award winning painter whose best loved subjects are rural Ontario and Quebec. The ships and harbours of the East Coast, cityscapes and portraits are also a passion for him. With over twenty-five solo exhibitions in Toronto and Ottawa since 1980, his masterful works are in high demand.The artist has taught portrait and landscape painting for Ontario colleges and appeared on television numerous times. He is author of the book “From Oils to Watercolour”.

John Alexander Day is an accomplished painter with over twenty years painting experience who prefers to paint outdoors to capture the qualities of light and atmosphere in his paintings. Day captures the character of his settings using his characteristic strong brushwork. He is equally adept painting large format paintings in studio. John Day is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA) and an elected member of Ontario Society of Artists(OSA).

Tricia Savoie is a prolific landscape painter with a passion for colour and light and painting outdoors,”en plein air”. Savoie has received many awards for her paintings and is a member of a number of area art associations. She teaches art for the city of Ottawa in various locations. Her paintings capture familiar regional settings and have wide appeal.

Martha Markowsky is an accomplished artist well known for her impressionistic paintings of orchestral musical ensembles. Other painting subjects include her vibrant nostalgic cityscapes of children at play in old Quebec neighbourhoods, and introspective bar room scenes. She teaches classes in oils and acrylics and conducts workshops in the Charlevoix region. Martha Markowsky is a highly respected and highly collected Canadian artist and elected member of the Society of Canadian artists (SCA), with works in many prominent private and corporate collections across Canada.

Alan J. T. Bain is a plein air painter who paints the vast silent lands of the Canadian boreal forest and has travelled extensively both as a geologist and as a artist across the Pre-Cambrians of Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador. Bain is an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC) and elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists(SCA).

John Stevenson is a professional landscape painter living in Aylmer Quebec. Stevenson worked as a graphic designer/illustrator for many years, and now dedicates all of his time to painting. Stevenson prefers to paint in oils using palette knives and creates impressive works in large formats. His paintings depict a lively sense of composition and attention to detail and colour from observations of nature interpreted on locale.

Audrey Bain is a plein air painter in oils and acrylics who love to paint rural Ontario. She graduated from St. Lawrence College, Cornwall with a diploma in visual and creative arts with distinction in 1982. She has participated in many workshops and has participated in numerous solo and group juried exhibitions in the region.

Lise Massicotte attended l’Institut des arts appliqués in Montreal and continued studies at the University of Edmonton. Over her career,she has explored different media such as theatre set design, journalistic graphics and layout, and the management of an art and craft gallery.Working with acrylic inks, her colours are very intense, and play with the contrast of textures according to the energy needed to give light to the work. Lise’s long-time passion is for trees, those giant witnesses of our presence on this earth.

Luminita Serbanescu, Ottawa area artist delights in capturing touching scenarios of beauty on canvas and describes her paintings as stories with light. Luminita is a member of Nepean Fine Arts League and Ottawa Artists Association, Ontario Architects Association, Ottawa Regional Society of Architects and Association of Romanian Architects.
